House Plans with Finished Basements
Based on old movies, the stereotypical basement is a dark, dingy storage space lit by a single light bulb with a string pull. Laundry was a daunting task of carrying a heavy basket of clothes down a creaky wooden staircase. If laundry isn’t bad enough, I shudder to think of the grisly role that basements play in every horror movie! However, after watching hours of home improvement programming on HGTV and browsing designer photographs on Houzz, I have a new appreciation for finished basement space. Most house plans come with the standard layout: bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living room…but just imagine what you would do with a finished basement. Now you have room for extra bedrooms, billiards, or even a theater!
House Plan 87511 has charming Craftsman style with exterior features including decorative brackets under the eaves, oriel window on white brackets and elephant leg column accenting the front porch. With the finished basement, the home comes out to three levels with 3103 square feet of living space. At only 30’ wide, this plan is also a great choice for a narrow lot. Enter the main floor through the two car garage or through the front door. Here we have a laundry, powder room, kitchen, great room with fireplace and adjoining dining room with access to the back deck. Three main bedrooms are arranged upstairs, each with a walk in closet. The master suite of course has a private bath with shower, whirlpool tub and double sinks. Over the garage is bonus space which could make a generously sized 4th bedroom. On to my favorite part of the home- the finished walkout basement is 976 square feet of the total living space which adds two more bedrooms, small storage room, full bath and rec room measuring 15’ x 17’8”.
House Plan 87517 is dressed up with flared eaves, ocular windows, brick and stone veneer and arched garage
door. From the street, you see a beautiful windowed tower which is enjoyed by the occupant of bedroom number 2. From the foyer, we have entertaining space (living and dining rooms) defined by columns, and conveniently accompanied by a coat closet and powder room. The informal family area is clearly separated at the back of the home, creating intimacy and comfort with a huge kitchen island, den, family room, breakfast nook and access to the deck. Upstairs we have three bedrooms, and it’s good to see that the laundry room is also on the same floor! The finished basement is a total of 695 square feet with an additional bedroom, bathroom and rec room. These rooms would also work well for in-law living or a rental.
Log House Plan 87162 is a rustic design with three levels and 2750 square feet of living space. Access the finished basement from the patio at the base of the hillside where you will find a family room, bedroom 3, an office and a full bathroom. The main living space above offers a bedroom, bath, laundry, country kitchen, dining room and great room with French door access to a 10’ covered deck. Enjoy the private master suite on the loft above with its walk in closet and full bathroom with double sinks.
