More than a traditional ranch-style home, this 1,965-square-foot plan is better planned and laid out and much more efficient and up-to-date. For one thing, in the old standard ranch design, many of the rooms were closed off from each other, preventing the open flow of light and movement. Here, the main shared spaces are essential one big space, with only a tactically placed wall to separate uses. The living room (which has a 10-foot ceiling) shares a fireplace with the adjacent family room, which is open to the breakfast nook (with bay window) and perfectly planned kitchen--which, in turn, opens onto the formal dining room. It’s a great series of spaces that holds up under modern real-world conditions. Private spaces are clustered all to the left side of the plan. The master suite is in the rear, with an opening from the master bedroom onto a private walled patio. A corner doorway leads into the master bath, which features a plant ledge and a big walk-in closet. Two secondary bedrooms share a bath and sit between the master suite and the two-car garage.
